In 2018, the Science and Wellness Organization (SWO) initiated a transformative project aimed at revitalizing the infrastructure of a rural estate school in response to urgent concerns raised by a teacher at the school. The Ministry of Education had ordered the closure of the school unless it could meet the enrollment targets. During our visit, SWO identified numerous issues: the presence of mold throughout the facility, termite damage to wooden doors, inadequate ventilation in classrooms, and poorly constructed toilets causing waste to leak into a nearby field.
In response, SWO launched a comprehensive project to renovate the school, focusing on improving its infrastructure, air quality, and overall environment. This project was completed in three months with the support of the private sector and corporate sponsors.
Objectives:
To improve the health and safety of the school’s environment for students and staff.
To create a conducive learning environment that fosters academic success and personal well-being.
To enhance air quality by addressing mold, poor ventilation, and other environmental issues within the school.
To provide an exemplary model of sustainable and resilient infrastructure for future educational institutions in rural areas.
Key Milestones:
